XCLOUD – Storage & Backup Notes
Disk changes, billing notes, and deleted-file retention behaviour during backup consolidation.
1) General
  • Disk increases (no cost): Disk volume size increases can be coordinated via our Service Desk by raising a ticket. There is no charge for standard increase requests.
  • Disk decreases (billable and more involved): Excluding boot disks, disk volume size decreases may be possible but are more complex and are billed at standard Schedule 1 – Rates & Charges. Bootable disk volumes cannot be reduced.
  • Resource allocations & pricing: All resource usage pricing and allocations (including, but not limited to, power and data) are subject to XSTRA review and assessment, and may be adjusted at XSTRA’s discretion.
2) Consolidation & Deleted File Retention
XCLOUD Backup and Recovery utilises StorageCraft ShadowProtect with ImageManager consolidation to maintain an efficient backup chain. Consolidation periodically merges incremental backups into consolidated daily, weekly, and monthly restore points.
Important: deleted files may not remain recoverable after consolidation
Because consolidation creates new restore points by merging incrementals, any file or folder you delete may be permanently removed during consolidation and may not appear in later consolidated backups. This behaviour is inherent to ShadowProtect’s consolidation design.
Recommended: Immutable Backups (for extended deleted-file recoverability)
If retaining the ability to recover deleted files beyond the consolidation window is critical for your organisation, we recommend adding Immutable Backups to your backup solution.
  • Preserves deleted-file recoverability after consolidation events (within the configured immutable retention period)
  • Tamper-resistant storage designed to prevent unauthorised alteration or deletion
  • Fixed retention period with policy-based protection aligned to your risk requirements
