XSTRA
XCLOUD – Backup & Disaster Recovery Protocol
Backup architecture, retention options, replication add-ons, and recovery guidance for XCLOUD workloads.
Overview
Scope: XCLOUD hosted workloads
Ransomware: It can’t attack what it doesn’t see. XCLOUD’s backup option reduces the impact of ransomware attacks and other cybersecurity incidents, as well as hardware failures.
What this option provides
  • Reduced ransomware impact: backup data is separated from production workloads and not directly accessible from your servers.
  • Outsourced data protection: XSTRA operates the backup strategy for workloads hosted in XCLOUD data centres.
  • 3-2-1 aligned design: 3 copies of data, on 2 different media, with 1 copy off-site.
  • Clear recovery pathway: defined retention settings and a documented disaster recovery protocol.
Documentation
For the detailed end-to-end process, definitions, and recovery flows, refer to the protocol document below.
Retention periods available
XCLOUD retention settings define how far back you can roll your data. A common configuration is the “7 / 45 / 13” model: 7 daily restore points, 45 weekly restore points, and 13 monthly restore points.
Retention tier Restore history retained
Quarter of an Hour Every 15 minutes for 1 hour
Hourly Hourly restore points for 23 hours
Daily Daily restore points for 7 days
Weekly Weekly restore points for 45 days
Monthly Monthly restore points for 13 months
Note: Retention and frequency depend on your contracted backup option and technical constraints of the workload.
Hot & warm replication options
XCLOUD offers replication options to alternate data centres to improve redundancy and recovery speed. Starting at a 35% premium, workloads can be kept in sync to an alternate physical location to support rapid recovery from major incidents.

Clarification on data protection & backup statements
Any mention—whether verbal, written, in quotations, marketing materials, or communications from XSTRA—of “100% protection” from cyber threats (viruses, malware, ransomware, trojans, etc.) should be understood as referring to the scope of the backup strategy and recovery capability, not real-time threat prevention.
What XSTRA does (recovery-focused)
  • Backups are designed to provide a path to recover business data after data-loss events.
  • Backups are provided on a best-effort basis and depend on the backup protocol being properly followed and in a healthy state at the time of restoration.
  • Restoration will be to a point in time deemed appropriate given the circumstances and the state of backup systems at the time.
What XSTRA does not claim
  • No claim of real-time protection, live detection, or automatic remediation of malicious activity unless explicitly contracted under a cybersecurity service scope.
  • No guarantee that data can be restored to the most recent state.
  • No guarantee of protection from reputational damage, data leakage, or unauthorised dissemination occurring outside managed systems or outside backup scope.
Data recovery
Recovery services apply when a client requests XSTRA to restore data from XCLOUD backups. Recovery effort is typically billed based on the time required and the volume/complexity of the restoration.
Recovery scope Estimated recovery time Price (ex GST)
Recovery – per terabyte
Billed fractionally. Applies to clients requesting XSTRA to recover data from backups for XCLOUD – Virtual Machines.
Recovery times vary based on:
  • data size and number of restore points
  • restore target (same host, alternate host, alternate site)
  • network throughput and workload complexity
See “Time – Other Rate” in Schedule 1 – Rates & Charges .
Important
Before initiating a recovery, we recommend confirming the desired recovery point (date/time), target destination, and any operational constraints (e.g., business hours, application shutdown requirements, or integrity checks).
