MICROSOFT LICENSING COMPLIANCE
Type Of Resource Requires Dedicated Compute Licensing Scheme Applicable and Required Supplier Restrictions
DaaS via Microsoft Windows Server NO SPLA Ingram Requires a RDS SAL Per User
DaaS via Windows 10 – Dedicated Outsourcing YES Open Value Schemes
XSTRA uses the Microsoft Open Value licensing scheme to obtain licensing for dedicated compute instances that support virtual desktops. Open Value comes in 2 forms:
  1. Open Value Licensing: is similar to Open License, where you pay for the software and completely own it after you purchase it. However, with Open Value, the cost of the license is spread out over three annual payments and you own the license after that. Software Assurance is included. Unlike Open License, the pricing for Open Value does not depend on the type of organization.
  2. Open Value Subscription: allows you to access the same software at an annual subscription fee. You don’t, however, own the software – and if you stop your subscription at any time, the software can no longer be used.
We must license the dedicated compute component to serve the needs of the Client and the Client must be the named entity for the Open Value agreement.
